This Indigenous People’s Day join us at “Paseo Artistíco: Protect The Sacred,” promoting local Native American artists and the struggle for Environmental Justice.

San Francisco, CA—Accion Latina’s bimonthly free community arts event on 24th Street, Paseo

Artistico will take place October 12, 2019. This month’s “Paseo Artistico: Protect the Sacred” will

bring awareness to local Native American artists, activists and allies and connect the environmental

justice movement from San Francisco to the Amazon. Protect the Sacred comes from the mural of

the same name on 24th Street and Florida in San Francisco’s Mission District. The mural’s two

creators, local artists Eli Lippert and El Chavi will offer an artist talk in front of the mural outside on

24th and Florida accompanied by Aztec dancers and local musicians Miguel Govea with students

from Community Music Center Latin American music ensemble.

Activities will feature local native artists and activists Kanyon Sayers-Roods (Ohlone) and Morning

Star Gali (Ajumawi) will present their work about organizing for Native Peoples justice movements in

California. Amazon Watch Executive Director Leila Salazar-Lopez will present about the fires in the

Amazon and the impact on native peoples in Brasil. Asocación Mayab will showcase live music and

dance from Mayan communities of the Yucatan, while local Mission District musician and shaman

Jorge Molina (Peru) leads an all ages music workshop with Loco Bloco. Rupa and the April Fishes

will bring their eclectic music with an environmental justice message, while Vanessa Sanchez gives

a free preview of her new show “Pachuquismo” a retelling of the Mexican American women in the

Pachuco movement through tap dance, documentary video and Mexican native song.

As always there will be several free arts classes and workshops for all ages and experience levels

including painting and drawing classes at Mission Cultural Center and Alley Cat Books, along with a

arts and crafts table at St. Peters School. Looking forward to seeing you on 24th Street/Calle 24
